The Bridge Builder by Will Allen Dromgoole was an oft quoted poem in my youth. You can read it here. The major theme of the poem revolves around an old traveler building a bridge he wouldn't require. Another traveler questions his efforts sharing how unnecessary the task is, but the old traveler rebukes him explaining that it is for a younger traveler following behind him.
The theme resonated with us. We don't only exist for ourselves. We make choices based on the younger traveler following behind us, and our customers do the same.
